 What is Clear & Colour Anodising?

Applications

Anodising to aluminium provides a corrosion resistant finish coupled with
increased aesthetic qualities.

Applications include architectural (railings and framework etc.), motor industry, boating industry, hospitality industry, electronics and artistic applications. In general any items which require medium level corrosion resistance performance with aesthetic qualities.

Some examples are camera housings, motor cycle parts, clock faces for designer clocks, stair rails, ice buckets, planters and cups, visible boat parts and electronic switch devises and panels.

We can not anodise cast parts on motorbikes unfortunately, the characteristics that make good castings are not necessarily the best for anodising. Alloys with the best casting characteristics are those containing up to 12-percent silicon. High-silicon alloys do not anodise well because silicon is not readily soluble in aluminum. Only the aluminum on the surface of the part anodises, leaving areas with higher silicon unanodised and the entire part with a black or gray silicon powder.

What is Hard Anodising?

Features

  • Hardens coating of alloy to the strength of tool steel
  • Melting point 650°C
  • Up to 200 microns

The coating provided by the Hard Anodic Oxidisation process can vary from a dull to a polished finish. The coating has many applications due to its inherent properties which include abrasion, erosion and corrosion resistance as well as electrical insulation.

Applications

Hard anodised components can be used in many applications previously considered unsuitable for aluminium. Examples include reciprocation and sliding parts, bearing cylinder heads, firearm components, pump parts, brake cylinders, sub sea equipment and packaging equipment. Highly recommended for use in harsh environments.

NOTE: We can not colour hard anodise aluminium parts.
